Turbo Trainers Selection Guide

Which type of turbo trainer do you prefer?

The Direct Drive turbo trainer is the most popular and most chosen turbo trainer. With a Direct Drive turbo trainer, you have a direct transmission on the bike trainer which allows you to train at high resistance and steep inclines. You mount a cassette on the turbo trainer and attach your bike to it with a quick-release or thru-axle. The Smart Bike has the largest resistance range. It also feels the most stable and has the best power transfer. It just takes some time to find the right adjustment. With a Wheel-on turbo trainer, you click the rear axle onto the trainer and is a simple way to cycle without too much resistance. The resistance is limited by the grip of the tire on the roller. Therefore, it is recommended to use a specific trainer tire. The bike roller is just a way to warm up and/or do recovery training on it.
